“...Where does time come from? Could it be a derived concept, emerging from a more fundamental one yet to be discovered? Is it truly a basic component of the cosmos, or merely a useful tool for organizing our perceptions?” (Brian Greene, 2004)

The book Photo Finish: An Anthology of Time does not claim to unravel the mystery of time. Instead, it brings together twelve chapters exploring time as a physical phenomenon, a social mechanism, a personal experience, and a political force.
The book is structured around a complex five-layer grid system, with each layer representing a different conception of time — 7 days of the week, 12 months of the year, a sundial, an hourglass, and periodicity.
